Illinois autism diagnostic authority law announced

2026-07-20 · Illinois EI · Enacted; future effective January 1, 2028

ISHA reports Public Act 104-0561 permits appropriately trained SLPs to diagnose autism for qualifying children under 3 within Illinois EI, subject to medical-condition, training, renewal-CE and referral requirements.

Practice or reimbursement impact: Plan training and implementation; the law is not currently effective and does not automatically establish payer reimbursement.

Status and date context: Official Act: https://my.ilga.gov/legislation/PublicActs/View/104-0561. Do not broaden authority beyond its conditions.
